🦟 Time To Talk About The Charleston City Bird…You Guessed Correctly…The Mosquito
Are you someone who is a mosquito magnet? Have you almost caused a 10 car pileup trying to swat the little blood sucking devil? We can relate. Here is a rundown of why they love you so much…
Factors that attract mosquitoes:
Mosquitoes are drawn to the carbon dioxide we exhale, with larger individuals and those with higher metabolic rates (like pregnant women) producing more.
Mosquitoes are attracted to heat, and individuals with higher body temperatures may be more appealing.
Mosquitoes are highly sensitive to body odor, which is influenced by genetics, diet, and the bacteria on our skin. Some individuals naturally produce scents that are more attractive to mosquitoes.
Research suggests mosquitoes are more attracted to individuals with Type O blood compared to Type A.
Pregnant women tend to exhale more carbon dioxide and have a higher body temperature, making them more susceptible to mosquito bites.
Alcohol consumption can increase body temperature and mosquito attraction.
Exercise increases body heat and carbon dioxide production, making you more appealing to mosquitoes.
Genetic Influence:
Research indicates that genetic factors influence the specific scents (kairomones) that humans emit, which can either attract or repel mosquitoes.
The HLA system, which plays a role in immunity, also affects the types and amounts of scent chemicals released by the skin, influencing mosquito attraction.
Other Factors:
The bacteria on your skin contribute to body odor and can affect mosquito attraction.
Darker clothing can absorb more heat and make you more noticeable to mosquitoes.

Diane also heads up Liberty Beans fundraising programs. “We work with schools, teams, organizations and charities to help them reach and exceed their fundraising goals. For schools and teams, we realized that whatever kids are selling…adults are buying. We work with them to create a custom label for the coffee bags to highlight their organization. It has been tremendously successful!”
