🄵 Beat The Heat!

Charleston and the surrounding areas continue to be under an excessive heat warning for the next few days. Here are some ways to stay cool as the other side of the pillow…

  • Hit The Beach, Duh - Although the ocean temps are getting close to the ā€œnot refreshingā€ zone, there is almost always a nice breeze on the coastline. Our favorite activity is to sit down by the water with a great book.

  • The Charleston Aquarium - Cool for all ages, educational, beautiful and…Air Conditioned!

  • Got Little Ones? - Check out some local ā€œSplash Padsā€ šŸ‘‡ļø

  • Palmetto Islands County Park - Mt Pleasant

  • James Island County Park - James Island

  • Charleston Aqua Park - John’s Island

šŸ˜‹ Best Shrimp & Grits…Who Ya Got?

Shrimp and Grits…one of the more iconic staples in Charleston. Ask 10 locals about the best and you’re likely to get 10 answers (including ā€œmy kitchen!ā€). We took one for the team and went exploring to find some of the best our local restaurants have to offer…from traditional to fancy pants.

  • Nigel’s Good Food - Hanahan and Ladson -Start with the Geechie Wings then onto Grandma Fred’s Shrimp and Grits with onions, peppers, sausage and brown gravy

  • The Grit Counter - North Charleston -With a name like The Grit Counter, you know the shrimp and grits will be spot on. This version includes smoked gouda grits, peppers, onions, scallions and tasso ham red eye gravy.

  • Page’s Okra Grill - Mount Pleasant -If you are up for something a little different, this award winning version includes a lighly fried grit cake and andouille cream sauce.

  • The Darling - Downtown -This brunch favorite includes cheddar grits, country ham, crispy brussels and a fried egg.

  • 82 Queen - Downtown -The bowl of creamy grits is topped with perfectly cooked shrimp tossed in bbq sauce, cheese and bacon.

  • Fleet Landing - Downtown -In our humble opinion, Fleet Landing doesn’t get enough credit. One of the things we love about the traditional shrimp and grits served during brunch, is the option to order a half portion (no nap needed afterward).
